KotLT: Shiny!

At the BASFA meeting on the 31st, several of the folk attending Spamalot with me for my birthday ([livejournal.com profile] dprisoner and [livejournal.com profile] brittunculus, I'm looking at you, among others) expressed the strong opinion that as the Birthday Boy, I ought to be wearing a crown in our little costumed outing.

Now, my Imperial Crown would be both impractical (because of its weight) and discourteous to wear, given that it is some 15" tall.

Then, however, I remembered that I had bought self-adhesive glitter craft foam as emergency backup to build Liberacicus' silver laurel wreath.

I also had all my construction sketches from the Imperial Crown as a starting point.

Presenting the Crafty Crown of Sparkly-ness

The Crafty Crown of Sparklyness, unfastened
just like my Imperial Crown, this one opens up flat. Unlike that one, this one is made of craft foam. The black blob on the right is the velcro hoods.

This is what I intend to use as the front

there are two sets of seven spires (2^7=49!), the outer set are gold and the inner silver.

I've since added a bit of overlap to the inner (white) foam headband to reduce the bend you see on the right

And best of all, I've already cleaned up the (small) mess in the studio now that's it done!
