Sherman, set the Waybac machine for 1968

So I asked my mom to check the old family photo albums...

Here, behind the cut, is the first costume I remember making.

Kevin as a Totem Pole

A few notes:

This started with the paper-bag mask, which was a Y-Indian Guides project.
My Dad made the cardboard bits and gave them a base coat of spraypaint,
then gave 'em to me to decorate.

He took my pajama-style commercial costume from the year before, spray-painted it
and attached the cardboard wings and body to it. Voila! my first hi-concept costume.

I was 8.

The funny thing is, my dad always wondered where I got the costume bug.
He and my mom had forgotten completely about this costume until I asked about pictures.

AAaaawwww

What a great costume!!

And with the silver paint, makes it look futuristic as well!!

Hugs!

Hmmm, If you did it now, would it count as recreation or historical?

When I was 8 years old, I was threepeo from Star Wars...go fig.
You're costume was much better. Mine was store bought.

My first costume that I had any part in designing was when I convinced my mom to make my ghost costume (sewn, not just a sheet) out of paisley so that I could be 'the ghost of a hippie.' I, too, was 8. And I was purple paisley....yeah...

That's funny, but wrong. But funny. So funny wins. :)

I will almost always go for 'funny and wrong' when designing a costume.

I don't remember much costuming growing up, but I do remember the outfit I wore to my first SCA event when I was 20. UGH! So horrible. I swore I'd have better garb next time, and now look at me! :D
