For the Hugo Awards, of course.

If you are a member of last year's Chicon, this year's LoneStarCon, or next years Loncon, you are entitled to submit a nomination ballot for the Hugo Awards. One of which is for Best Fanzine.

Shameless plug:

If you read and enjoy Yipe!, I hope you will consider it during your nominating process.

I almost forgot... I did manage to get the holiday issue of Yipe! published before midnight on New Year's eve.

It's a light and fluffy issue featuring holiday tees (courtesy of Chris Garcia), holiday sweaters (courtesy of me) and the return of our Letters page.

Onward into the postapocalyptic future!

Yes, it's true -- after almost a year, Yipe has been resuscitated and returns just in time for Halloween with Reanimated: Cocktails vs Zombies.  Debbie and Linda go commando for pink drinks, Chris finds the perfect Cocktail Suit, Kevin is all dressed up with nowhere to drink as he rolls his robot bartender all over town, and Jerry Thrills us all with the brain-eating tale of her life as a Zombie.

This is my first issue as the sole editor of Yipe, and I'm pretty happy with it. Enjoy!

I haven't done much in the way of videogaming for years (truth: I remember the Magnavox Odyssey, and Pong, and played lots of Atari 2600 games at my godparents' house), nor costumed from them.

I do, however, write for a costuming magazine (YIPE! if you've somehow missed that fact over the last 3 years) and am working on a feature about video game costumes and/or costuming at videogame events.

Anyone out there in LJ-land have something (photos, anecdotes, tales of excitement and wonder -- or woe and misery) to share? Deadlines are looming [cue ominous 8-bit music]

Actually, there are TWO!

Our lamentably delayed May issue, "International Travelogue Issue", and our June costume wedding special, "Unbridaled", are now both available for free download from www.yipezine.com !

It's seventeen days past the ides of March, so *of course* Yipe! has a new treat for you.

As a service to our readers, we happily present Volume 33, Issue 3 of "RAG", the *first* costume fanzine.

We hope you'll enjoy this little venture into a different side of costuming.

All issues may be downloaded for free from http://www.yipezine.com

We're already hard at work on our next 4 issues, but as always, WE WANT YOUR STUFF! drop a line to editors (at) yipezine.com if you'd like to share.*

*We may wait to publish it in an issue with a matching theme, but we will use it!

We take it all back!

YIPE! Volume 3, Issue 0, “Redacted,” is now available for download from http://www.yipezine.com .

This is our much-delayed second Annual Issue Xero, rescued from file-corruption oblivion.

Issue 3.1, the February issue, is well under way but we still have room for stuff from you! Drop a line to editors (at) yipezine.com if you have comments, photos, articles, artwork, poetry... etc etc etc to share...

PS This year, YIPE! has enough issues published to be eligible for nomination in the Best Fanzine category of the Hugo Awards. If you like our 'zine, please be kind enough to remember it when considering your nominations.
(And thanks to everyone who tried to do so last year, even though we weren't yet eligible!)

Kids make their wishlists without any care for how realistic said hopes are given socioeconomic trends and their tax bracket. It doesn’t matter if they get a jet pack or a ray gun or a nuclear-powered arm cannon. The important thing is, for a brief moment, they think they might.

Even if it’s just for a fleeting moment, a kid’s mind opens up to the vast universe around them. Maybe it’s possible for a decrepit, morbidly obese man to harness a team of faster-than-light ruminants to distribute roughly 18 billion presents across the entire globe in less than 12 hours.

Sure, Kevin wants a Jet Pack, Ms.Sheriff wants a Ray Gun, I want the power to crush skulls between my cruel digits, and Mette wants everything all at once… but are we going to get them?
Does it matter, as long as we WANT them in the first place?

YIPE! Volume 2, Issue 12, “All I Want…,” is now available for free download from http://www.yipezine.com

Volume 3 is due out in 2011. Oh, is it 2011 NOW? If you have something to submit (or want to send a letter of comment), contact us at editors (at) yipezine.com before we run out of year!

P.S. The December 2010 issue (2.12) is actually the 16th issue of Yipe! magazine since we started publication in October of 2009. To those kind souls who thought us worthy of Hugo nomination last year, we are now actually *eligible* for nomination, which we were not last year.

Greetings and seasonal felicitations!

Yes, it's the time of the month when I remind everyone that Yipe: The Costume Fanzine of Record is always actively seeking contributions of articles, photos, artwork, poetry, etc. about wearing costumes in public. (Actually, I'm a few days late, but don't tell my co-editor!)

We're doing a special December issue, so here's my special December request:
Costuming/Wearable Art wish lists! (illustrated with a sketch, photo or photos is even better).

If you are inclined to compose it as a letter to Santa*, that's an additional treat for us, but by no means necessary.

Here's your chance to write for Yipe! without having to write more than a couple dozen words :-)

Send your wishlists (or other offers of content contribution) to editors (at) yipezine.com

Best regards
Kevin Roche
Co-Editor, Yipe! Magazine
http://www.yipezine.com

PS The November Issue went up last week!

*The Yipe! editorial position on the holidays is completely non-denominational; we just recognize them as yet another opportunity to Dress Up and Have Fun with Other People (and Maybe Get Some Presents). This all started because I was humming "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth" while discussing possible themes, hence the letters to Santa meme.

We're coming up on the August submission deadline for Yipe! magazine and, frankly, We Need More!

If you've been to a costumed event in the last few months and would care to share your photos, we'd love to have them. Even more, we'd like to hear your story of going to the event!

Submissions don't need to be encyclopedic; a few hundred words capturing your going-out-in-costume adventure is just the sort of thing we like to hear.

Interested? Drop a line to editors (at) yipezine.com!

Want to know more about Yipe! ? Visit http://www.yipezine.com

Feel free to amplify the signal...

YIPE! Volume 2, Issue 7, "Dregs," is now available for free download from http://www.yipezine.com in both high-resolution and lower-resolution formats.

As always, we're already on the lookout for articles, stories, photos, artwork or even poetry about costuming in social spaces for future issues. If you're interested in contributing (even a few hundred words about someplace you went/something you did in costume), drop a line to editors(at)yipezine.com

Enjoy!

Kevin
