Alright, I am not drunk enough to deal with this, so I'm just going to put out this PSA:

Livejournal Scrapbook is going away and will be replaced by the mysterious "Photo Album". Your 10GB of Paid Member space is now 2GB. If you care, there is an explanation in Russian on the Russian news page. There's also a user-submitted translation.

+ You will no longer have access to your Scrapbook once this goes live.
+ Your images will redirect, but the URL will be different.
+ Unable to tell what will happen to any photos you have that put you over the 2GB limit.
+ Back up your Scrapbook just in case.
+ If you want your photos transferred over now instead of waiting, let them know here.

ETA:
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] storyfan for telling me about this (relevant comments on page 13): For now at least, you can still upload/manage your scrapbook via http://pics.livejournal.com/manage/.

Here's a FAQ about the Scrapbook in English:

http://news.livejournal.com/142269.html

The news may not be all that bad, but it isn't all good either. For example, your space isn't being reduced but you'll be losing your tags and may need to do some reorganizing. Or something like that.

The stated reason seems to be increasing maintenance difficulties, leading to a sort of nuke-and-pave solution.

User space has been 2GB for quite a while, actually...

Anyways, what idea)fairy said. The English announcement *finally* got posted today.

I'm definitely unimpressed by the situation though. I use filters and tags a LOT on my Scrapbook pix. None of the tags are going to carry over and all the filtered pix are going to be switched to me-only access. Re-sorting and re-tagging is going to be a PITA...

I think we have a conflict here between what LiveJournal wants from Scrapbook (a way to publish pictures to include in LJ posts) and what some users want from Scrapbook (Flickr, or something like it).

I'm leaving it alone. I've already moved most of my substantial posting (not that there's much of it) to G+ (which has that wonderful Picasa Web Albums as its photo back-end).

I must admit that, waaaaay back when I started making fairly heavy use of the Scrapbook for pix linked to LJ entries, I thought "I'm probably going to regret this later on, aren't I?" and lo and behold... *headdesk*

This doesn't sound like what they announced the other day?
